Tablecloth Beneath The Same Sky
Greek-inspired table setting
As summer approaches, the dining room transforms into a space for shared enjoyment and conversation. At Svenskt Tenn, we draw inspiration from the Mediterranean, inviting you to a table setting where art and craftsmanship meet in harmonious union. At the heart of it all is the Greek artist Alekos Fassianos, whose iconic motifs adorn both tablecloths and napkins. With his expressive visual language and powerful symbolism, Fassianos brings to the table a story – a visual journey through culture and tradition. The colour palette is quintessentially summery, with shades of blue and white evoking whitewashed houses, sun-warmed paving stones, and the shimmering waters of the Mediterranean.
The linen tablecloth and napkins, featuring blue birds and bees, capture the poetic aesthetic so characteristic of Fassianos – to him, a symbol of motion and freedom. The table is further enriched with sculptural plates by Anton Alvarez, where every detail becomes a work of art in its own. With their distinctive forms and textures, Alvarez’s creations spark curiosity and conversation, adding both substance and personality to the setting.

The deep blue glazed stoneware plates were created by the sculptor and artist Anton Alvarez for Svenskt Tenn. The material used is the same as that employed by the artist in his acclaimed ceramic sculptures.

Surrounding the table are Josef Frank’s classic dining chairs, model 1165, noted for their airy elegance and lightness of form. The six arched slats of the backrest lend a rhythmic, open quality, gently concluding the vertical lines of the cane rods – a graceful design that recalls the arches of Greek and Roman architecture.
