The Elefant Wallpaper
The classic Elefant (Elephant) print is almost synonymous with Svenskt Tenn. Designed by the company’s founder Estrid Ericson in the 1930s, it is today available both as a wallpaper, linen fabric and on interior items in a range of colours.
The Elefant print
Estrid Ericson designed many jewellery and pewter pieces during her career, but she created only one fabric print. She came across the inspiration during one of her travels, when she found a piece of elephant-patterned African fabric at a Parisian flea market.
Printing the Elefant wallpaper
Josef Frank’s wallpaper designs are printed using the traditional technique of distemper printing, whereas the wallpapers featuring Estrid Ericson’s Elefant pattern are produced through screen printing.While not as old as distemper printing, screen printing is a somewhat more automated process
Estrid Ericson
Entrepreneur, visionary, artist, designer, producer, scenographer, and art teacher. Many titles could be attributed to Estrid Ericson, for she was an exceptional woman ahead of her time.
